Light Work invites between twelve and fifteen artists to Syracuse to devote one month to creative projects every year. Over 400 artists have participated in Light Work’s Artist-in-Residence Program, and many of them have gone on to achieve international acclaim. The residency includes a $5,000 stipend, a furnished artist apartment, 24-hour access to our state-of-the-art facilities, and generous staff support. Work by each Artist-in-Residence is published in a special edition of Contact Sheet: The Light Work Annual, along with an essay commissioned by Light Work. Work by former Artists-in-Residence is also part of the Light Work Collection.




Film Independent

Episodic Lab 2024

Deadline Varies


Designed to support writers with original long-form episodic projects, Film Independent’s Episodic Lab will accept a diverse group of 6–8 writers or writing teams and provide them with critical support and mentorship. Through personalized feedback from experienced showrunners, creative producers, and executives, Fellows will gain the tools to revise and refine their pilots and navigate a changing industry landscape.

 Our mission is to support independent artists and musicians by providing grants for the recording process. Recordings are the gateway to today’s music industry and play a critical role in the economy of independent music. By supporting artists and musicians in creating music,  we not only see them as creatives but also as small business owners. Additionally, our grants contribute to job creation by directly funding service providers such as producers, engineers, and studios. In short, our mission is to record music and create jobs.
